   This photograph was taken looking east down the River Orwell, toward the English Channel.  Photo was taken near Wherstead Church.

   There is some question as to whether this could be in the vicinity of John Merrill who supposedly had rental property. Compare this photograph to the one on the next page. They appear to have been taken in the same footing, near the St. Mary's Church in Wherstead.

   House at the crossroads - New Lodge, said to be over a hundred years old, just west of the church at Wherstead.

   Another view of New Lodge on the south side of "The Street". 

   Note the crest above the doorway though not of the Merrills.  The family living there at the time didn't know anything about it.
